David Walker was an arts student at the University of Glasgow from 1928-1932 . In his first year, 1928-1929, he studied Latin, Greek and Mathematics and in the next academic session he took Roman History, Higher Greek and English. In his third year he took Latin (Hons), Greek (Hons) and Moral Philosophy, whilst in his final year, 1931-1932, he studied Latin (Hons) and Greek (Hons).
